The questions you might have.
The audit will show whether you are close or need another 6–12 months to prepare. Either way, you will know where you stand. If you are not ready, I’ll explain why and suggest next steps.
For businesses earning less than $5 million, B Lab U.S. & Canada charges $2,100 USD per year (2026), plus a one-time submission fee. The Climate Label bases its fee on emissions. 1% for the Planet charges annual dues from $500, which count toward your 1% commitment. The audit covers these costs so you can plan ahead.
There is no single right time to start. B Lab’s new standards have applied since January 2026, so waiting will not lead to an easier version. Your documentation needs may grow as you add employees, suppliers, and locations. Start when your team can give the process a few focused months.
B Corp is a certification from B Lab. A Benefit Corporation is a legal structure in some jurisdictions that lets directors consider more than shareholder profit. A business can have either or both. Customers generally recognize B Corp certification more widely.
It is a fair question. B Corp’s credibility has been debated as larger brands have joined. It includes independent verification, but its value still depends on a company’s practices. I work with businesses that want to document real progress, not just earn a badge.
