Get recognized. For how you already do business.

Flat-fee certification consulting for small businesses across Canada. You're paying me so you don't lose a year on the wrong credential or a rejected submission. Every engagement runs through me.

"Most of the work is already done. It just isn't written down the way B Lab wants, and the last stretch is where the costly mistakes tend to hide."

The problem

Good businesses get overlooked. Here's why.

Sustainability certification is one of the most powerful marketing assets a small business can earn. Most that deserve it never get there, not because they don't qualify, but because the system wasn't built for them.

01
Priced for someone else

The big firms built their pricing for companies ten times your size. A $40,000 quote isn't a negotiation starting point. It's a signal that you're not their client. Most small businesses just walk away.

02
Genuinely confusing

B Corp. Benefit Corporation. Climate Neutral. ISO 14001. They overlap, they contradict, and the internet makes it worse. Most owners spend hours researching and still aren't sure which one they actually need.

03
Feels like a year

For most small businesses, certification takes closer to twelve weeks than a year. The challenge isn't the clock. It's knowing which answers hold up under review and which ones quietly sink a submission before it gets flagged. Most owners are already doing the practices.

Timing

The case for starting now.

The bar is moving. Starting later costs more.

B Lab is phasing in an update to its certification standards. Preparing under the current framework is genuinely easier than starting after the changes land — the bar only gets harder to clear.

First to certify owns the label.

Whoever certifies first in a crowded niche tends to own the most-sustainable label in customers' minds — and that position is difficult to take back once it's claimed.

The complexity only grows.

It's easier to certify at twelve people than at forty. The operational complexity that accumulates in a growing business makes the eventual audit longer and more expensive.

How it works

From first call to the logo on your site.

Built to feel calm, not rushed. Most founders have too much on their plate already.

01
A free 20-minute call

We talk through your business and whether certification actually makes sense. About a third of the time I point people toward a different credential than the one they came in asking about. No pitch, no pressure.

Submit and certify

I handle the B Lab submission and all correspondence. When the cert comes through, we plan the announcement together: social, press, customer email. It's worth marking properly.

Most people begin with the audit. No pressure to commit to anything larger until you've seen the work.

A two-week diagnostic. I run the full B Impact Assessment on your business, document where you stand, and produce a written roadmap: which certifications you qualify for, the gaps, what closing them costs, and a realistic timeline. You keep the report whether or not we continue.

Honest answers

The questions you may have.

The audit will tell you. About half the businesses I assess are closer to certification than they expected. The other half need 6–12 months of foundational work first. Either way you'll know exactly where you stand. If you're not ready, I'll say so directly.

For Canadian businesses under $5M revenue, B Corp's annual fee is roughly $2,100 USD. Climate Neutral scales with your footprint, typically $1,000–$5,000 annually. 1% for the Planet has no membership fee, just the commitment to donate 1% of revenue. I walk through all costs in the audit so nothing surprises you.

B Corp is a third-party certification from B Lab. Benefit Corporation is a legal entity structure in some jurisdictions that expands what directors can consider beyond shareholder profit. They're different things. You can have one without the other. Most businesses I work with want the B Corp certification because it's the certification consumers actually recognise.

Fair challenge. B Corp's credibility has taken hits as larger brands have joined. The honest answer: it's a real verification process, but only as meaningful as your actual practices. I won't help a business game the assessment. I help businesses that are genuinely doing the work get credit for it.

First, my pricing is calibrated for businesses your size. Not companies ten times larger. Second, I come from inside a regulated BC small business, so I understand your compliance overhead without needing it explained. Third, every engagement runs through me directly. No junior consultant managing your file while a partner takes the credit.
